What is CBD?

Cannabis is growing in legality around the world, becoming widely recognised for its versatility. Our cannabidiol (CBD) is just one of over 140 cannabinoids - natural compounds found within, and extracted from a strain of hemp, called cannabis sativa L.  The process of extraction removes the psychoactive compound THC, leaving behind a beneficial and legal extract which can be enjoyed on a daily basis.

CBD is currently regulated as a food supplement providing a supporting role in enhancing the functions of the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). If you are new to CBD we would recommend that you have a chat with a nutritionist or health practitioner first.

The Endocannabinoid System

The ECS is where receptors in your nervous system and throughout your body play a role in regulating a range of functions and processes including:

Inflammation, Memory Function, Mood Regulation, Immune Function, Stress Response, Pain Response, Appetite Control, Energy Balance and much more…

The ECS exists and is active in your body. Even if you don’t use CBD.

The benefits of CBD come into play when it interacts with the ECS by supporting the neurotransmitter anadamide (from the Sanskrit 'ananda', which means "joy, bliss, delight") so that it has a longer lasting effect and relief from pain and inflammation is much enhanced.

Maintaining a healthy balance in your body can help with the natural productions of endocannabinoids. Simple adjustments to your diet can benefit this.

You can learn more about the ECS from Dr Ruth Ross’ TedX Talk here.

Let’s Talk About Terpenes

Hemp, like all plants, carries its own terpenes. These are naturally occurring hydrocarbons which make up the plant’s essential oils, giving them unique flavours, scents and colours.

At Papilio, we incoporate terpenes in our CBD products to add natural yet powerful notes and flavours.

As an additional benefit, when terpenes and cannabinoids interact with each other, as well as with the brain's receptors, this beneficial reaction is known as “the entourage effect"and is linked to positive psychological effects such as relaxation, pain relief and anti-anxiety.

We have harnessed these incredible gifts of nature to bring you three terpene-tastic blends…
